Summer Sunday Harwich Boat Train 1980 - 1987 - top page

Harwich Boat Train Locomotives 1963 - 1988

It seems the original intention was to use a four coach set on the train in 1983, formed TSO, TSO, TSO, BFK (4), hauled by a March allocatted Class 31/4. This though proved to be impractical and after a couple of Sundays the formation reverted to TSO, TSO, TSO, BSO, FK, TSO, TSO (7) most weeks with Stratford Class 47 haulage. However, Stratford Class 47's only appeared in total on nine of the Seventeen Sunday's. Another five Sunday's saw use of Great Eastern allocatted Class 31/4's and 37's. The highlight of the summer was three consequitive Sundays in June which saw the use of Cardiff Canton allocatted 47257 on the 11th, Thornaby allocated 47289 on the 18th and on the 25th, Gateshead allocatted 37015 was used on the outward and Healey Mills allocatted 31162 on the return.
