BR Mark 1 TSO 4347 receiving attention in John Walker Square Stockton-on-Tees during the summer of 1975 when it was promoting the Stockton-Darlington Railway 1825-1975 celebrations.   Terry Bye

BR Mark 1 TSO 4347 residing in Preston Hall park, Preston-on-Tees near Egglescliffe on 13th June 1982. What then subsequently became of it?   Terry Bye

One of the highlights of the 'Stockton-Darlington Railway 1825-1975' celebrations was the appearance in John Walker Square, Stockton-on-Tees of BR Mark 1 TSO 4347 promoting the event. The carriage had been condemned in November 1973 and disposed of to T. J. Thomson, Stockton-On-Tees for scrap in April 1975. Apparently the carriage was then gifted to the Stockton-on-Tees Stockton & Darlington 150 Committee in the summer of 1975 by T. J. Thomson. Where it was spruced up is not known but it was photographed freshly painted in the bay platforms of Stockton-on-Tees station shortly before moving to John Walker Square in the town centre. Following the celebrations it has now been established that the carriage moved to Preston Hall Park, Preston-on-Tees, near Egglescliffe were it was still located in 1982. What then became of it still remains an unsolved conundrum although it is probable it was disposed of for scrap not long after the above picture was taken. Any further information about this carriage from 1975 would be greatly appreciated, particularly details about its fate.

Mark 1 TSO 4427 saw use as a restaurant attached to the Leadburn Inn. It is pictured there on 11th May 2006 prior to being broken up, By this date the adjacent Inn had been demolished.   Peter Hall

The Leadburn Inn, Leadburn, Scottish Borders was an old drovers' Inn situated at the junction of the A701, A703 and A6094 roads. The Inn was the venue for many Scottish Branch functions. During the early hours of the 12th November 2005 a motorist failed to negotiate the junction. The car crashed into the verandah of the inn and, tragically, the driver was killed. In the ensuing inferno the building was totally gutted and although the carriage survived, it suffered some damage. Fortunately, no one was in the Inn at the time. As a result the inn had to be demolished. The carriage being broken up when the site was cleared the following summer.
