GWR design, BR built Siphon G 1019 was photographed c1999 adjacent to the former 20 Shop of Swindon Works c1999. This had been withdrawn in 1983 and had been located at the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway and Llangollen Railway before moving to Swindon. It is now located at Llynclys, Peter Hall collection
The 1972 edition of 'The Coaching Stock of British Railways' listed 132 GWR design Gangwayed Milk Vans, more commonly referred to by the GWR designation of 'Siphon G'. These included examples from six different lots built to two different diagrams between 1936 and 1955. A total of 175 were built in this period and all are included. Initially built for conveying churned milk, many subsequently saw other uses. All were through steam piped when built but those modified for use as Newspaper Vans were fitted with steam heating.

GWR 'Siphon G' 2992 arrives at Buxworth from Buxton in 1979 GWR
This amazing sequence of photographs show the removal, transportation and final resting place of the body of Siphon G 2992. The first picture shows it being craned from its bogies at Buxton, although precisely where in Buxton has not been established. However, the Higher Goods yard has been suggested - can anyone confirm that this is the location where the photograph was taken? It has also been suggested that this actually took place at Dewsnap sidings, Manchester. Does anyone recognise the location? The second picture shows it arriving at Buxworth Basin by road from Buxton. The third picture shows it soon after it was placed in its final resting place at Buxworth basin in 1979. The final picture shows it after it had suffered fire damage in 1995 shortly before its remains were broken up.
