GWR/BR 'SIPHON G'

These were constructed at Swindon Works in 1953 and 1954 in two batches, eleven in total were built. All remained in use until the late 1970's. They had end doors as well as side doors and were used for conveying motor vehicles and theatrical scenery as well as more general parcels traffic.

596 1978/79 Sold to Chadwick, Stalybridge (with Siphon G 2992) and moved to Dewsnap Sidings, Manchester from Chester arriving 5/2/79. It is believed that it was removed from its bogies and used nearby as a sports pavilion before being broken up 9/79. (NB - Chadwick rented rail connected premises in Warrington were they scrapped rail vehicles but is not believed this was ever located there.)
