Although Class 91 locomotives have been the norm on all ECML electric hauled/propelled timetabled trains, Class 90's did see occasional use between November 1991 and June 2003. This is a brief resume of that period, corrections, additional information and pictures are welcomed.

November 1991 - May 1992
The first known appearance on a timetabled passenger working was on 12th November 1991 when 90021 was used on the 17:33 Kings Cross-Peterborough.
From then on 90021 - 90025 were used as required. In April 1992 90016 - 90020 started to see use on Mail trains and did occasionally find their way onto the odd passenger train. An example being on 28th April when 90016 was used on the 09:45 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - Kings Cross.
May - October 1992
90021 - 90025 used as required, 90016 - 90020 used occasionally.
October 1992 - November 1993
90022 - 90025 used as required, 90016 - 90021 used occasionally.
November 1993 - September 1995
90021 - 90024 used as required, 90016 - 90020 used occasionally, much less so from April 1994.
Also, between May 1992 and May 1994 90001, 90002, 90003, 90006, 90010, 90013 made a small number of appearances.
September 1995 - April 1998
90021 - 90024 used as required
April 1998 - April 1999
90025, 90027, 90029 used as required.
Also, on 19th April 1998 90019 worked 17:10 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - Kings Cross / 22:00 Kings Cross - Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
April 1999 - June 1999
90027, 90028, 90029 used as required.
June 1999 - June 2003
90016 - 90040 used as required.
(NB - 90021 - 90027 / 90033 / 90038 - 90039 were numbered 90221 - 90227 / 90233 / 90238 - 90239 for a while in 2001 - 2002.)
Also, between 10th September and ? December ? 2001 90142 saw use.
The last working was on 1st June 2003 when 90030 was used to haul the 17:40 Leeds-Kings Cross.
