Class 33's, 'Cromptons', as they were affectionally known, were rarely seen timeabled and relief passenger trains on the Cherwell Valley route (Oxford - Banbury - Leamington Spa) prior to May 1982. However between May 1982 and May 1984 they had a regular working on the Fridays 1E22 12:46 Portsmouth Harbour-Leeds / Sundays 1O92 15:11 Leeds-Portsmouth Harbour, see Portsmouth Harbour - Leeds 1982 - 1986 for more information about this train. This was in addition to making more frequent appearances than hither too on other timetabled and relief trains.
It is worth mentioning that since the mid 1970's the only 'Cromptons' not recorded to have appeared on the route heading timetabled and relief trains are 33035, 33036 33041, 33053, 33054, 33056, 33058, 33059, 33116 and all of the 'Slims' except 33203 & 33209.
