Class 06 observations in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s - top page
First allocated to Motherwell in November 1959. Transferred to Greenock (Ladyburn) in March 1961. It is then recorded as having been transferred to Eastfield in January 1968. Observations received taken along with other information suggest though that it was actually transferred to Polmadie in cJune 1966 and onto Eastfield in January 1968. The RO records that by September 1967 (p.377 11/67) Greenock (Ladyburn) had been replaced by Gourock as a stabling point and the shed was now a heap of rubble. From cJune 1966 the usual two Class 06 and one Class 08 stabled at Gourock were a combination of the last allocated to Greenock (Ladyburn) (D2425/6/7, D3920/1) and those allocated to Polmadie (D2429/31/3, D3905-9/11/27/9). Transferred to Thornton in April 1968 from where it was withdrawn in January 1969 but reinstated at Leith Central in March 1969. Transferred to Dunfermline Townhill in January 1972, although submitted observations suggest that this may have taken place slightly earlier. Transferred to Dundee in February 1973 and back to Dunfermline Townhill the following month. In early 1976 it moved to Polmadie, presumably for attention in the heavy repair facility. Its place at Dunfermline Townhill was taken by Dundee allocated 06004 that was presumably officially on loan. In the mid 1970's seven Class 06 were distributed between Aberdeen Ferryhill, Dundee and Dunfermline Townhill. Aberdeen Ferryhill was allocated one for use in the Docks. Dunfermline Townhill was allocated four, two at Kirkcaldy, one at Markinch and one at the depot. Dundee was allocated two, one for use in the Harbour and one spare. The spare locomotive at Dundee appears to have given cover if needed for Aberdeen Ferryhill and Dunfermline Townhill locomotives being unavailable. 06007 never returned to Dunfermline Townhill and was officially put in store at Polmadie in June 1977 when 06004 was officially transferred to Dunfermline Townhill to replace it. 06007 was officially withdrawn in September 1977.
