For several years in the early 1990's LMSR Gangwayed Passenger Brake 31148 housed a Model Railway Exhibiition at Colwyn Bay station. This being one of several locations this van has been located since being taken out of BR service.   Ivor Bufton

A total of 475 Gangwayed Passenger Brake Vans were built to LMSR Period III design between 1938 and 1950 under fifteen different lots. A considerable number of these continued in use until the 1980's although many of those had their gangways removed. Also included for completeness is the Royal Train Convertible Sleeping, Brake & Power Van. This was included in the same number series but was to a completely different design.

This unique vehicle was styled to match Royal Saloons 798 and 799, which it originally accompanied. The central portion contained an engine compartment housing an electrical power generator. The rest of the carriage contained accommodation for staff accompanying the train. It had six-wheel bogies and was 69' in length.
