Q21.102. Standard Class 4 2-6-0 76077.

Query Corner – top page

The team restoring Standard class 4 2-6-0 76077 would like to obtain pictures (especially) and sightings / records of this generally camera-shy engine which spent almost all its short life at Sutton Oak (8G).

76077 went to Eastleigh for its first and last general overhaul in January/February 1964 and spent a little time on running in turns, anecdotally it was ’spotted at both Bournemouth and Waterloo as well as Eastleigh.  It also visited Swindon in late July/August 1964 where it received new valve liners apparently; one report says it spent some time on the Swindon test bed and was painted.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an official record from the works that it was there although some of its sisters were, are there records to prove or disprove this?    (Ian Crowder)
