Query Corner – top page

Q18.09. The Last S&D Special The son of the guard on the last service train into Bath is writing a book assisted by his father’s journals. Details of the coach numbers, or at least coach types, of the RCTS last train special would be very much appreciated. (Roger Newman: 5965).

Answer

This would have been the Somerset And Dorset Farewell Rail Tour on Sunday 6th March 1966. The vehicle numbers are not recorded but the letter sent with the tickets stated that: “The train will be made up of semi-open BSKs at each end and an RKB which will be the third vehicle from the rear of the train leaving Waterloo. The remaining vehicles will be SOs of which that behind the RKB will be reserved strictly for the service of meals……..” The itinerary for this tour is available in the Society Archive and Library.
