Q17.01 – Carriage on the Eyemouth Branch

Query Corner – top page

What was the identity of the BC carriage which operated on the Eyemouth branch in south east Scotland between 1951 and the closure of the line in 1962? It was new when it came to the line and in view of the 1951 construction date of the Batch numbered SC 80417-80421, it may be one of these. (Roger Jermy: 11480)

Answer
Returning home from a trip to Scotland, having cycled from Berwick to Eyemouth, the branch train was caught back to Burnmouth on 3rd July 1959. The motive power was J39 64925, hauling Thompson BC Sc80334E. (Nigel Mundy)
