Q16.10 – Class 76 at Penistone Marshalling Yard Christmas 1980

Query Corner – top page

A photograph taken at Penistone on 27th December 1980 shows that one of the trains stabled in the yard was headed by a locomotive with its pantograph down. The locomotive appears to be a vacuum only class 76, heading a westbound train of what looks vacuum braked/unfitted coal hoppers (HTV/HTO). 27th December 1980 was a Saturday so the train may have worked into Penistone before Christmas and stabled there over the Christmas break. Any information helping to identify which class 76(s) would have been in the yard then would be very much appreciated. (Alistair Jolly:18521)
